Fiskars scissors for kids 5 years and up, safety blade and comfortable large handles for small lefties. These scissors have the quality we've come to expect from the world-renowned Finnish scissor manufacturer. Lightweight, easy to handle, a favorite of our employees. 5.5" long with 2" blades. Give your lefty kid the confidence to take on art projects from a young age! Keep a pair in every place your child might sit down and engage in making something. Fiskar's is one of the oldest companies in the world. It began as an ironworks in the small village of Fiskars, Finland, in 1649. Yet, in 1992 all production had stopped in the beautiful, historic town, and it was economically dead. Fiskars sought out artisans, designers, and artists and invited them to live and work in the village. This transformed the town into a much acclaimed center for Finnish art and design, and it is now a popular tourist destination. The company's trademark orange color came about by accident. When their iconic scissors were designed in 1967, the prototype was made from resin left over from making an orange juicer. Fortunately, there was a vote, and orange defeated black by 9 to 7.

  • What makes these scissors left-handed?
  • All of our scissors and shears are TRUE left-handed, that is, they have the blades reversed so you can see what you are cutting, not just simply a reversal of the finger grips. The left blade is always on top. This means that the cutting action of the left hand pushes the blades together to give a smooth cut the whole length of the blades and also that a left-hander has a clear view of the cutting line.
  • When a left-hander uses right-handed scissors, they have to push the thumb and index finger together in an unnatural way to make the scissors cut, causing marks on the hand and eventually callouses. Also, they have to look over the top blade, which obscures the cutting line. With truly left-handed scissors your natural cutting action matches that of the scissors. Just hold the scissors straight and naturally and do not try to twist the blades. After a short time, you will be completely comfortable with your new scissors and wonder how you put up with misusing right-handed scissors for so long!

Left-Handed 5.5 Scissors for kids October 3, 2014

I love reading other reviews to see how Mom's of left-handed children have felt about all things in schools are done (or not done) for these lefties.  I wish someone would make a fun video for left -handed children to watch. I think actually watching another left-handed child handle the paper and scissors while following the lines would be good.  My grandson is just 5 years old and not that interested in coloring, cutting, etc.   He would rather be outside running, throwing a ball, or playing games with his neighborhood friends.  A video just might catch his interest if it is done right!  Thanks for your Lefty sight.

The resources that tho site offers have enabled my daughter to master skills that before she struggled with. Who knew how hard it was to find left handed scissors.
